D Lang Additions adds support for the D programming language to Nova.

    Features

    • Syntax highlighting powered by Tree-sitter, covering modern D: templates and constraints, UDAs (@safe, @nogc, …), interpolated strings (i"…$(x)"), token strings (q{…}), raw/hex strings, static if/version/debug conditions, __traits, ddoc comments, and more. Deprecated constructs (like cent or numeric version levels) are flagged.
    • Symbols in the sidebar and jump bar for modules, classes, structs, unions, interfaces, enums, templates, aliases, constructors, methods, fields, constants, and unittests.
    • Folding for functions, types, and blocks.
    • Completions for keywords, built-in types, common snippets (foreach, static if, unittest, scope(exit), …), @attributes, __traits(…), and predefined version(…) identifiers.
    • Language server support via serve-d: context-aware completions, diagnostics (D-Scanner lints), hover documentation, go to definition, find references, and formatting with dfmt.
    • Dub tasks: build, run, test, and clean from Nova's toolbar. Compiler errors, warnings, deprecations, and failed asserts show up in the Issues sidebar and inline in the editor.

    Requirements

Highlighting, symbols, folding, and completions work out of the box.

For language server features, install serve-d:

brew install ldc dtools # dtools provides rdmd, which the serve-d build needs
    dub fetch serve-d
    dub run serve-d --build=release -- --version # builds it into ~/.dub/packages

serve-d uses DCD for completions and offers to download it into ~/.code-d/bin. On Apple Silicon that download is an old Intel build that crashes on startup, so install the osx-aarch64 build from DCD's releases page instead: put dcd-server and dcd-client in ~/.code-d/bin or anywhere on your PATH.

The extension finds serve-d automatically on your PATH, in ~/.dub, in Homebrew's prefix, or in VS Code's code-d install directory. You can also set a path explicitly in Extensions → Extension Library → D Lang Additions → Settings.

For dub tasks, install a compiler and dub, e.g. brew install ldc dub.

    Usage

    Dub tasks

    1. Choose Project → Project Settings…, then click + under Tasks and pick Dub.
    2. Set the compiler, build type, and (optionally) configuration, package directory, and program arguments.
    3. Use Build (⌘B), Run (⌘R), and Clean from the toolbar. Set Run Action to dub test to make Run execute your unittests.

    Commands

    • Extensions → D Lang Additions → Restart serve-d restarts the language server, e.g. after changing dub.json dependencies.

    Settings

    Setting Description
Enable serve-d Turn the language server on or off.
serve-d Path Explicit path to the serve-d executable. Empty means automatic.
Extra Arguments Additional arguments passed to serve-d.
